Exploring Golden Valley: Parks and Activities You’ll Love

Hi neighbors — it’s Mia Erickson here with some of my favorite parks, attractions, and go-to spots around Golden Valley you’ll want in your weekend rotation. Whether you’re after trails, play zones, or just a breath of fresh air, here are ideas that work all year long.

Parks & Nature

Theodore Wirth Regional Park & Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden

Want a big escape without going far? Theodore Wirth Regional Park spans hundreds of acres, offering woods, open fields, gardens, and lakes. The Eloise Butler Wildflower Garden inside it is a delightful spot for walking among native flowers and trees — it’s tranquil and lovely in every season.

Brookview Park

This one’s a local favorite. At 33 acres, Brookview Park is Golden Valley’s largest city park and has something for everyone: lighted tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, a playground, pavilion spaces, and trails. It’s ideal for a game with friends or an afternoon picnic. It also includes Brookview Golf & Lawn Bowling for something more structured.

Schaper Park

Perfect for families, Schaper Park features an inclusive play area, a fitness challenge course, softball fields, and is intersected by the Luce Line Regional Trail. It’s accessible, fun, and a spot where kids and adults alike can stretch out and enjoy being outdoors.

Trails & Greenways

Luce Line Regional Trail

This paved trail runs through Golden Valley and stretches outward, connecting to other parts of the metro. It’s great for walking, jogging, biking — a solid choice when you want motion plus fresh air. It passes through places like Schaper Park.

Valley View Park & Glenview Terrace

This park straddles Golden Valley and Minneapolis. At roughly 17½ acres, it has picnic zones, walking and biking paths, and connects with larger trail systems. Super accessible and peaceful.

Things to Do & Community Vibes

Golden Valley Events

Golden Valley hosts lots of community-driven events. Think “Concerts in the Park,” “Puppet Wagon,” farmers markets, and seasonal get-togethers. These are great for mingling and discovering local culture.

Parks Improvements & New Features

Golden Valley continues updating park amenities. Recent and ongoing projects include new pickleball courts at Brookview, playground replacements at Stockman Park, skating rink layout updates at Hampshire Park, and more.

Tips & Weekend Ideas

  • Combine a walk or bike ride on one of the trails with a stop at a nearby park’s playground or pavilion for a full morning out.
  • Pack layers—Minnesota’s weather can turn in a day, and open spaces like Wirth Park or Valley View are more fun when you’re prepared.
  • Check the city’s event calendar before weekends; if there’s a “Concert in the Park” or special gathering, align your outing around it.
  • Bring a picnic or some games — parks like Brookview or Schaper have spots that invite lingering.

Golden Valley has a strong offering when it comes to green space and enjoyable outdoor activity. Whatever your pace—slowing way down with nature or staying active—there’s no shortage of places to go or things to explore. Happy adventures!
